It is always a great honor to announce a new production from an internationally acclaimed Belgian screenwriter-director, and this time is no different: arthouse icon Hugo Teugels is not only ready to present his long-awaited short film Cassandra Venice to the press but is also preparing for its world premiere.
Cassandra Venice tells a mysterious story against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice and carries an important message: it is a modern allegory for one of the most pressing issues of our time – global warming.

Press Invitation
We would like to invite you and all other journalists, reviewers, bloggers, and vloggers to watch the film. Of course, this can be done together with the screenwriter and director himself, or through an exclusive, temporary link. We look forward to hearing from you!
About Cassandra Venice
• Genre: Mystery / Fantasy / Climate Fiction
• Length: 21 minutes
• Location: Venice, Italy
• Logline: ‘In moonlit Venice, top model Cassandra Venice wanders through the deserted streets of the city, searching for answers to the secrets that have turned her world upside down.’
The Cassandra Venice storyline revolves around a top model (played by actual model and actress Polli Cannabis) who, during a break from her modeling work, is mysteriously drawn to a golden spoon. This simple object turns out to be the catalyst for a surreal journey through the silent, deserted streets of Venice, where the line between dream and reality increasingly blurs, and dangers seem to lurk around every corner.
The short film is a fairy-tale-like story in which the boundaries between reality and fantasy become increasingly thin. For twenty minutes, Hugo Teugels manages to give a unique, artistic, and surprising twist to a modern parable that both intrigues and makes one think about current climate issues.
Film References
Cassandra Venice is strongly inspired by the surrealist style of top directors like David Lynch. The short film undeniably evokes associations with Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway, among others. M. Night Shyamalan, known for his surprising plot twists and use of color symbolism, is also a clear reference. The goal is to offer a visual experience that also has something to say.

Event on September 1
Hugo Teugels will be part of the Film and Tourism panel on September 1 at the Des Bains 1900 Luxury Beach Club on the Lido of Venice. The event will bring together several key players from the film and tourism sectors and will offer a unique opportunity to discuss how film productions can influence and promote tourist destinations.
Participation in the panel is a recognition of both the artistic value of Cassandra Venice and the crucial role Venice played in the creation of the film. The idea for the short film was partially born during Hugo’s nighttime walks through the silent streets of Venice, following previous film festivals.
Expectations are high, especially as there is a possibility that Hugo Teugels may be honored for his work during the event – something a large part of the festival audience is undoubtedly looking forward to!
